For my entire life, I’ve always imagined that guys tend to majorly overreact when getting hit in the balls. Sorry, yes, I’m talking about balls. BALLZ, actually. But, ladies, am I right? I mean come on – I realize that the area is probably a little tender, but really, what is with these kinds of reactions? And I’m sure we’ve all heard them at one time or another, whether it was in seventh grade gym class or at a college fraternity party:

“BLAAARGH, I’M GOING TO PUKE!”

“EEEEEYOYYY!!!” (falls on floor, gripping junk, writhing around in pain)

“RAAWWPHR, MY MANHOOD IS CRUSHED FOREVER!”

Since I’m not a dude I’ll obviously never actually experience or be able to rate the pain of being kicked/hit/knocked in the nuts on a scale from Zero to Child Birth, but what I wouldn’t give to actually know the truth…

On a related note, here’s a little video I happened to shoot on one of our lazy mornings last weekend. If you want to get on with your life a little quicker, fast forward to about 1:20. And then laugh with me.

I’m that mom. Posting another video of her baby. I’m sorry, but this was too good to not share. You can bet Rob is loving this one…

So yeah, I’m sort of out of words today.

But look! A video! Of my kid!

Have a great weekend, friends.

A couple evenings ago I was outside rearranging the furniture on our patio, Avalon was sitting the grass playing, and Oliver was doping around the yard. All of a sudden, in the middle of me lugging a lounge chair over my head and, frankly, completely ignoring Avalon, I hear her giggle something major and I immediately begin to wonder what in the world I did that is so hilarious. Do I have spinach in my teeth? A “kick me” sign on my back? PANTS, DO I HAVE PANTS ON?

I muscle the lounger back onto the ground, whip around to see what she’s laughing at, and see that she is staring directly at Oliver who is eating grass and then gagging it back up like a complete idiot. Evidently, Avalon thinks it is the funniest thing in the world because for nine straight minutes she sat there in the yard, all by herself, laughing her head off at the dog.

Then yesterday, while I was at the lamest orthodontist appointment in history, Avalon spent some time with my mom at Orange Tree. Mom had her dog, Corby, there with her and just like the day before, Avalon went bananas over her newly-discovered fascination with furry animals.

Is there anything better than a baby laugh?

Avalon was being a little feisty before her nap yesterday, whining and crying and doing a great job at convincing me that, DUDE, YES YOU DO NEED A NAP. Of course she finally fell asleep and when I went up to go get her up I noticed that her head was resting right on top of her hands. How she ever thought that was comfortable is beyond me, but look at what she did to her poor little face:

Kinda like a sheet print, but it’s a hand print. That sucker was so red and deep you could practically see her fingerprint in the middle of her forehead.

Here’s a little video, too:

Avalon can talk (sort of)! I’m not really sure what a “ba ba” is, but I’m going to figure it out. No matter what, she’s a genius.

I caught Avalon singing the other day while she was sitting in her bouncy chair, and man, she was LOVING IT. She just discovered her lips and how she can say “ooooo.” She probably figured she better find something to do with her mouth now that mean old Mommy took her binky away, MUAH HA HAAAA.

I can’t believe it’s already January 5, 2010. I have obviously been MIA for a couple of weeks because dang, this holiday season was a flippin’ whirlwind. I think adding a baby into the mix of an already chaotic time of year is akin to dumping some Red Bull into your morning coffee, plus with me and my neurosis about the schedule I have Avalon on right now (great comments on that post, by the way!) I was freaking out the whole time thinking that she would get all out of sorts and forget how to sleep at night or something. Thank goodness the whacky days didn’t mess her up, and she trudged through the holidays without any major hiccups in her nighttime sleep.

We did our typical Christmas routine with our families, and spent Christmas Eve morning/afternoon with Rob’s side and Christmas day with my side. We have a tradition of spending the night at my parents’ house Christmas Eve so that we can wake up and open presents on Christmas morning just like I have been doing for twenty-five years. I’m not sure how long we’ll continue this tradition as we add more kids to the mix, but for now it’s perfect. Besides, we don’t have our own hot tub and Christmas morning wouldn’t be complete without a soak in the tub with mimosas in hand after opening presents.

Avalon received her first Bible from Grandma and Grandpa T.

Santa brought Avalon a jumper to play with at Mamie and Grandpa Jeff’s house.

Aunt Courtney made Avalon this killer new chair. She digs it.

Great Grandpa B. made Avalon her very own adirondack chair. She now has plenty of seating options.

A few days after Christmas we packed our bags and headed to Florida for a week. Avalon was an angel on the plane ride both ways and had a lot of fun swimming in the pool, but mostly it was just an excuse for me to doll her up in a bikini, sundress, and hat. By the way, isn’t this hat something else? We coined it her “Gertie Hat” last time we were in Florida, because Gertie is what we call her when she’s fussy and grumpy and acting like a mean old lady. And this hat just says Gertie all over it.

Now we’re back home, back to the daily grind, which means I really need to wrap this horribly written holiday recap up so that I can get some work done. Invoicing calls. But wait, before I go, here’s a video of Avalon and her Grandpa Jeff being goofy in Florida…

Do you guys ever watch Momversation? I do, and I really love it. A bit addicted at the moment, actually, so I thought I would do this post Momversation-style.

So! To schedule or not to schedule, THAT is the question. If you’re a mom, a mom-to-be, or a not-even-close-to-being-a-mom-but-still-have-an-opinion, share with the class what your take on baby scheduling is. Curious minds want to know.

Another video of Avalon, I know I know, but guys, this was just too good not to post. She hasn’t really laughed since the video I posted of her first giggles which was almost a whole month ago. The girl plays hard to get, man, really makes you work for it.

I’m not sure why she thought this obnoxious noise I was making tonight was so hilarious, but it doesn’t matter because would you just listen to this adorable gut-wrenching laughter? It’s enough to even make Scrooge smile, I’m sure of it.
