I can’t believe it, but Avalon is already a week old. This morning as I was nursing her I kept looking at the clock and reminiscing, “it was one week ago at this time when I got my epidural” (yeah, I got one. birth story coming soon eventually.) and “it was one week ago at this time when I nursed you for the first time.” I suppose the speed at which life has already moved is only an initial peek at how fast the rest of her life will fly by. In the blink of an eye she’ll be starting Kindergarten and getting her driver’s license and going away to college and AH, CRYING, HORMONES!

Speaking of crying, whoa, yesterday was One Of Those Days. We got a little out of rhythm, Avalon and I, and ended up spending the day not-sleeping. Because of the lack of sleep we both spent the better part of the day crying. I know my hormones are wacky right now, but yesterday they were seriously on over-drive. My neighbor came over to bring me dinner- CRY. My grandma dropped by to check on us – CRY. I was hungry – CRY.

Thank goodness, last night and today have been so much better. We are back in sync again, and back on the eat/play/sleep cycle for the most part. It also was a godsend that last night my mom and I were preparing to give her a bath, and when I turned on the shower water to steam up the bathroom before we got her all nakey-nakey, she instantly went from fussy to calm. So we did some experimenting, turning the water off and on a couple of times to see if it affected her, and concluded that running water is the golden ticket. She was instantly soothed, and I may have used that trick again around 3am last night to successfully calm her down before getting her back to bed. Now the shower is officially the first item in my Mommy Bag of Tricks.

Today, since she is in a much more pleasant mood, I captured her on a quick little video. Presenting, Avalon:
