This little lady is my great-grandma. Isn’t she cute? Doesn’t that fish sweater alone make her even cuter? She adores clothing that has some sort of animal embellishment somewhere on it, whether it be scaly sea creatures around her midriff or kittens prancing around her sleeves.
(Side note: She is literally the only person on the face of the earth that I will give permission to wear these types of garments. In other words, she has pretty much earned it and may wear whatever she pleases, as far as I’m concerned.)
(And when I am 93, I an confident that I, too, will take advantage of that right. Please start collecting zoological clothing for me, would you?)
Anyway, Her Cuteness just celebrated a big day last weekend – her 93rd birthday!
Can you imagine living 93 years? That woman has been through a lot, both good and bad.
Think about all the great things she has lived through: three of her own children growing up; a number of grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; the invention of color t.v. (really, how did anyone live without this?); and the invention of gum drops. (Ok, that one I am not sure about, I only know that she has an extremely deep love and connection with them. So strong, in fact, that I sense a serious possibility that she, herself, was the inventor of the dang things.)
Then there are the not-so-great things she has seen in her lifetime: the Depression; the death of her dear, sweet hubby; about five cats, all named Jeepers, come and go; racial segregation; and the forming of all seven continents. (Again, could be mistaken about that last one; social studies and/or history were not my best subjects. And I’m going to go ahead and pretend that I didn’t just google ‘how many continents are there?‘.)
Anyway, the whole family gathered to celebrate all 93 years with Grandma Markley. She is so special and such a character; we all love her so much. And doesn’t she look absolutely amazing for her age? That’s what I thought.
And lastly, I’ll let it be known that it is almost impossible to grab a picture of her smiling (she can be stingy that way), so clearly, this weekend we hit the jackpot.

She is a cutie! How fun. My great granny is turning 100 years old in August and we’re having a big party for her. I can’t imagine experiencing so much either!
